Kalki 2898 AD is an upcoming Indian science fiction film written and directed by Nag Ashwin and produced by C. Aswani Dutt of Vyjayanthi Movies. The film stars Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Deepika Padukone and Disha Patani.

The film was announced under the working title Project K in February 2020 coinciding with the 50th anniversary of Vyjayanthi Movies. However, the production was delayed by a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Filming began in July 2021 in a futuristic set at Ramoji Film City, in Hyderabad. It was shot simultaneously in Telugu and Hindi.
Kalki 2898 AD is made on a budget of ₹600 crore (US$75 million), making it the most expensive Indian film ever made. The film’s music score is composed by Santhosh Narayanan with cinematography by Djordje Stojiljkovic and production design by Nitin Zihani Choudhary.

The makers of Kalki 2898 AD unveiled a new poster of the film to announce the release date on Friday. Headlined by Prabhas, Deepika Padukone and Amitabh Bachchan and directed by Nag Ashwin, Kalki 2898 AD will now hit the theatres on May 9. The new poster features Prabhas. Prabhas can be seen sporting an intense look in the poster. He can be seen wearing armour in the poster. Sharing the poster on his Instagram feed, Amitabh Bachchan wrote, “The story that ended 6000 years ago. 𝐁𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐬 𝐌𝐚𝐲 𝟗𝐭𝐡, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒.The future unfolds. #Kalki2898AD” Take a look:

The teaser of Kalki 2898 – AD was released in July. It gave us a glimpse of Prabhas, Deepika and Amitabh Bachchan’s characters. The teaser launch at the San Diego Comic Con was attended by Prabhas, Nag Ashwin and Kamal Haasan. While Amitabh Bachchan joined the panel via video conferencing, Deepika Padukone was not part of the promotion as a member of the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Radio and Television Artists (SAG-AFTRA) due to the Hollywood strike last year.
Casting
In July 2020, Hindi film actress Deepika Padukone was signed to play the lead role opposite Prabhas. Padukone felt that she was “beyond thrilled” to join the production while Ashwin stated that her character would be “surprise” as it was something which “no mainstream lead has [ever] done before”.[17] The film marks Padukone’s debut in Telugu cinema. Bollywood Hungama reported that her role was initially “not substantial” but was improved to suit her stardom. In October, Amitabh Bachchan was cast in a full-length role in the film. Ashwin stated that his role was “so important that his character’s name was the working title of an early draft”. The film would be Bachchan’s first full-length role in a Telugu film, following his cameo appearances in Manam (2014) and Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy (2019).
In May 2022, Disha Patani joined the cast, marking her return to Telugu cinema after Loafer (2015). In June 2023, Kamal Haasan joined the cast, marking his return to Telugu cinema.
On Amitabh Bachchan’s birthday, the makers unveiled the first look of the superstar from the film. In the poster, we can only see the actor’s eyes as he stands inside what looks like a cave. Amitabh Bachchan’s face can be seen covered with a white piece of cloth. Sharing the poster, the production house wrote, “It’s an honour to be part of your journey and witness your greatness. Happy Birthday Amitabh Bachchan sir – Team Kalki2898AD.”
Kalki 2898 AD Release
Kalki 2898 AD is scheduled to theatrically release on 9 May 2024. Initially aimed for a 2022 release, it was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and production works.
The trailer for the film will be launched in the month of April 2024.
The film is planned to be released in Telugu and Hindi while also being dubbed in Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, and English languages.
